Industry Applications
Petrochemical

Valves are important pressure pipeline components in petrochemical installations, characterized by their large quantity and wide application. They serve functions such as cutoff, regulation, diversion, prevention of backflow, pressure stabilization, diversion or overflow, and pressure relief. Valves are also complex components in pipelines, generally assembled from multiple parts, with a complex structure and high technical content.
There are many varieties and specifications of valves. Depending on their functions and the structure of the opening and closing parts, valves can be classified into gate valves, globe valves, throttle valves, ball valves, plug valves, butterfly valves, check valves, pressure reducing valves, diaphragm valves, steam traps, safety valves, and more. The opening and closing of valves can be controlled in various ways, such as manually, electrically, pneumatically, hydraulically, through electric-pneumatic or electric-hydraulic linkage, and electromagnetic drive. They can also operate under the influence of pressure, temperature, or other forms of sensing signals according to predetermined requirements, or simply open or close.
Usage and characteristics of valves in the petrochemical industry
Valves are widely used in various petrochemical and chemical installations. The cost of pipeline materials accounts for about 15% to 20% of the total project investment, while the investment cost of valves accounts for more than 50% of the total piping cost. The proportion of different types of valves varies. For example, in refining installations, the proportions of various types of valves in the total number of valves are: gate valves 80%, globe valves 8%, check valves 6%. These three types of valves are the most commonly used in petrochemical production installations, while other valves account for 6%. The investment in valves accounts for 5% to 8% of the installation. Taking a 2.5 million tons/year vacuum distillation unit and a 1.4 million tons/year catalytic cracking unit as examples, the proportions of valve specifications in the total number of valves are: DN≥400 3%, DN150~350 12%, DN50~100 25%, DN≤40 60%.
